August 26, 2010

Did you ever think fly fishing and baseball go together?  Well, it does now! On August 16th, the Wright & McGill Co. donated a Boron 5Xe Fly Rod and Dragon Fly Reel to the Colorado Rockies who paid tribute to Bobby Cox, Manager of the Atlanta Braves, who is retiring at the end of this season.  This was televised and presented to Mr. Cox before the game and the Wright & McGill logo was up on the jumbo tron.  Plus, the Rockies won that night.

New Wright McGill Products – 2011

July 15, 2010

What a year 2011 is going to be with the new Wright & McGill products being introduced this year at the ICAST show being held in Las Vegas.  Here’s a peek of what you can expect to see.

Wright & McGill S-Curve Blair Wiggins Signature Series

Inshore saltwater rods that will provide the ultimate in performance and affordability.  Seven new models designed around W/M’s exclusive S-Curve blank technology for strength, sensitivity, lightweight and incredible lifting power making the new W/M S-Curve Blair Wiggins Signature Series rods the best performing, most durable rods in its class.  The one of a kind color design on these rods makes them almost invisible to fish in clear water giving the angler a true advantage by not spooking fish in shallow, clear water.  Click here to view product.

Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Micro Honeycomb Rods

Micro Honeycomb technology offers ultra thin, lightweight blanks constructed of 100% modulus carbon that are bound together by our new, industry leading Micro Honeycomb resin.  This design combines three separate layers of high modulus graphite wrapped around a high density graphite core, reinforced by woven fibers and bound together by W/M’s exclusive resin.  Click here to view product.

These rods combine this exclusive blank technology with the addition of high performance micro guides, the newest trend in high performance rods offering increased accuracy and lighter weight.  Micro Honeycomb  rods will deliver 100% of the performance and sensitivity that you’ve been looking for and all four models are incredibly light and perfectly balanced.  Available in three spinning and one casting.

Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Victory™ Spinning and Spincasting Reels

Wright & McGill Co. and Skeet Reese have worked together to design a new series of spinning and spincast reels that will not only stand up to the rigors of the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournaments, but are priced so the average fisherman can use the gear that professional anglers like Skeet use everyday.  The Victory spinning reel is available in four popular sizes – 2500 to a large framed 4000 series and the spincast is available in both a 6.2:1 and 7.0:1 version in both right and left hand retrieve.

Wright & McGill S-Glass and S-Curve Skeet Reese Tournament Rods

Three new models added to the line for 2011   The two new S-Glass rods are a 6’6 Short Mag Crankbait and  a 7’10” Magnum Crankbait and feature split handle design, custom handles and the famous W&M soft crankbait action.    The S-Curve is a 7’6” Pitchin’ Stik and has an extra fast action, split handle design for balance and weight reduction along with the very popular custom handle that has been so popular with all of the other Skeet Reese rods.  Click here to view product.

Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Jr. Champion Combo

Skeet Reese helped design this beginning anglers’ combo that features a high quality 5’2”, 2 piece, spincast rod and reel that will make it easy for young anglers to cast over and over again.  The combos comes with a safe, rubber casting plug for use at home when you can’t be on the water, an instructional DVD – “Fishing is Fun” and a Skeet Reese tournament hat sized for the young angler.   Click here to view product.

Yellow Fever – The New Tessera Series

May 13, 2010

New collection of special Tessera rods have Skeet Reese written all over them.

Recent years have seen a growing trend in fishing rod manufacturing. Although anglers still have plenty of general-duty sticks to choose from, there is a whole new world of technique-specific designs. Many top manufacturers have made contributions to this style, and Wright & McGill have done so with a line of higher-end rods without the higher-end price tag.

When the company teamed-up with 2009 Bassmaster Classic Champion Skeet Reese, the result was one of the more interesting collections of specialty rods to come along in a long time. The Skeet Reese edition “Tessera” is available in a full spectrum of casting and spinning models, and at a price point that makes them accessible to virtually any angler.

Since Stan Wright and Drew McGill formed Wright & McGill nearly 80 years ago, the Colorado based firm has grown to become one of the most recognized names in angling. The company has come a long way from manufacturing bamboo poles and now offers a wide array of products under both the Wright & McGill and Eagle Claw brands. Their new assortment of vibrant rods bearing the legendary Lucky Craft pro’s signature gained overnight popularity among anglers, and is a prime example of how Wright & McGill is swinging for the fences.

The new Tessera series consists of eight models that have been made using S-Curve Technology and two models constructed with Tri-Gressive S-Glass. The SCurve combines T-Glass with high-density graphite to produce a rod that is superior in terms of strength and sensitivity. The blank is wrapped in carbon tape and graphite to reduce cracking and to further increase its strength.

Two other rods are constructed of Tri-Gressive S-Glass for fishing crankbaits and mark the next level in glass rod-blank technology. The blank combines three layers of connective fibers and is 25 percent stronger than fiberglass with a reaction that rivals graphite. The pair has superb power and hook-setting capabilities while being incredibly light.

There are eight, technique-specific graphite S-Curve sticks available: flippin’/pitchin’, jerkbait/topwater, spinnerbait/worm, jig/worm, Senko/toad and swimbait/Carolina rig. The two spinning models are a drop shot/split shot and a shaky-head/Senko. All are one piece and range in lengths from 6-foot 8-inches to 8-foot long. The two crankbait rods are 7-foot and 7-foot 10-inches. Every rod features split handles made with molded rubber for a comfortable feel and grip as well as reduced weight and improved balance. Zirconium guides also help reduce weight and pave the way for superior casting performance. Each rod in the Tessera series is marked by Reese’s signature yellow and black color scheme.

Thanks for all the great feedback on the rods. at least half the people were there to buy a second or third model for the coming season. Check out some of the great photos from the event.

Skeet Rod Testimonial

September 10, 2009

We recently heard from a Skeet rod fan. This testimonial is just too good not to post. Thank you Shawn for taking the time to let us know your thoughts.

I recently purchased two Skeet Reese signature rods, a spinnerbait\wormbait model, which has quickly became my favorite rod and a Senko rod. I own other rods that were much more expensive- a Setyr that was 250 dollars and a G Loomis rod that was 290 dollars and a couple Falcon Cara series rods that were 240 dollars each. I wish you guys had came out with these rods earlier, not only are they affordable but they are easier to fish with than the more expensive rods I own. I’ve had 4 back surgeries and fishing hard for 8 hours straight takes its toll on me, especially in two and three day tournaments. Before I would have to stop fishing for sometimes 20 or 30 minutes towards the end of the day and lay flat on my back on the deck of my Skeeter boat while my partner ran the trolling motor for me because I hurt so bad by the end of the day I just couldn’t fish anymore, but after buying your rods I’m fishing longer and hurting less, which translates into catching more fish and I can enjoy myself without being in too much pain. The spinnerbait\wormbait rod is so light and has increased my casting distance with less effort, and its so versatile I can do almost anything with it. I can throw spinnerbaits and I can even throw crankbaits without worrying about ripping the bait out of the fish’s mouth. Because of the soft tip it so sensitive I can use it as a shaky head rod. It’s just an awesome all around rod and the lifetime warranty inspires confidence. I had a G Loomis rod break on me last year while fighting a fish and not only did I lose the fish but when I went to get a new one under warranty, it took almost 4 months and they sent me a rod blank and I had to find someone to put eyes on the rod. I was very disappointed especially after paying over 300 dollars after taxes for a rod to go through all that. I can see myself retiring the rest of my rods and buying a few more Skeet Reese signature rods real soon. If these rods are good enough for Skeet to use on the tournament trail and for him to bet his career on, then they should be good enough for anybody. I know they have won me over. Thank you for making such a quality rod and keeping it affordable.

Sincerely,

Shawn English

Skeet Reese To Fish Wright & McGill Rods

May 20, 2009

2009 Bassmaster Classic Champion and 2007 Bassmaster Angler of the Year, Skeet Reese, announces a new partnership with the Wright & McGill Co. to produce a new line of Skeet Reese Signature Tessera Fishing Rods and will be fishing Wright & McGill rods exclusively in the coming years. The series will be based on the competitive needs of one of the world’s best anglers combined with the technological expertise of one of the industry’s most well known manufacturers.

The Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Signature Tessera Fishing Rods will feature nine technique specific models designed by Reese to fit his own fishing style and the most popular fishing techniques being utilized today. From drop shotting to flippin’ and pitchin’, swimbaits, crankbaits and jerkbaits, the lineup will fill the needs of any serious angler. The new lineup will be constructed using Wright & McGill’s proprietary S-Curve blank technology.

S-Curve is Wright & McGill’s new process of blank construction that blends a precise mixture of materials in a specific process for assembly that results in a thin diameter blank that weighs less than conventional construction without sacrificing durability. The result of the S-Curve construction and premium components is a premium bass fishing rod that would make a Bassmaster Classic Champion proud, while making it affordable for the angling public.

“I am very excited about this new partnership with Wright & McGill,” said Reese, who has been active in design and construction of new products with his sponsors for many years. “I have always wanted to be able to produce a premium fishing rod that would be at a price point that every angler would be able to afford; Wright & McGill Co. has given me that opportunity. This new project will allow me to build the rods I’ve always wanted to build at a price point that everyone can afford; and with Wright & McGill’s distribution network, we will be able to provide many anglers a chance to experience their quality construction and affordability.”

“Chris Russell, Marketing Director for the Wright & McGill Co. said that the company is equally as excited to be working with Reese. “The thought of working with a Bassmaster Classic Champion and Angler of the Year is certainly thrilling,” Russell said, but that was not the only draw. “Skeet has a real understanding of the business side of the fishing industry, and a real sense of what the fishing public needs and wants; when coupled with his skill as an angler and his work ethic, he represents a tremendous asset, one we are proud to enter into this project with.”

Reese said the rods fit his style, both as an angler and an icon. “The components are the best available, the blanks are some of the most technologically advanced I’ve ever seen,” Reese said. “The look of the rods will certainly be aggressive, reflecting my personal trademarks, I think everyone will see them for the revolutionary product they are.”

Wright & McGill’s Skeet Reese Signature Tessera Rods will make their industry debut at ICAST in Orlando in July. The rods are expected to be available for sale to the public in September of this year. In keeping with the Wright & McGill Co. brand strategy, these rods will be designed and priced to offer exceptional quality and value at a price point affordable to a wide range of anglers; the entire line is expected to retail between $89 – $99.
